A groundbreaking ceremony was held Thursday for the new Margaret Chase Smith Community School, which MSAD 54 administrators say will allow for greater continuity in education because students no longer will have to transition from one school to another every couple of years.

The consolidated school will combine three existing schools and part of another elementary school in the district, and the state will cover nearly 95% of the cost.
