A section of Mulberry Street will be closed for 30 months after the Martinsville Board of Works & Safety approved the request made by the Morgan County Commissioners.

The authority voted to issue a demolition order Wednesday for a structure in the 200 block of North 4th Street.

The citys unsafe building authority plans to hire its own structural engineers to assess whether the property is structurally sound.

Most of Wednesday nights meeting of Martinsvilles Unsafe Building and Hearing Authority dealt with properties located in the 100 block of West Harrison Street.

The property owner will have a chance to contest the ruling at the authoritys Feb. 16 meeting.
