RANSON — Friends of Music has donated a set of three tubano drums to Ranson Elementary School in Jefferson County. Music teacher Bonnie Pullen asked for the donation.

Members of the local VFW and VFW Auxiliary will be out in force Friday morning distributing poppies at various location throughout Spencer. VFW 3159 Commander Frank Lehman and VFW Auxiliary President Bonnie Pullen joined Spencer Mayor Steve Bomgaars for a proclamation declaring Oct. 6 “Buddy Poppy Day.” The Buddy Poppy is distributed in every state of the union and dozens of other countries.
