Last year, more than 78,600 workers were sent abroad, accounting for 112.3 percent of the adjusted plan due to COVID-19. Of the total, 38,891 worked in Japan, 34,537 in China’s Taiwan, and 1,309 in the Republic of Korea, and the rest in other countries and territories. Last year, the country aimed to send 130,000 labourers to work abroad. Due to the pandemic, the target was adjusted down to 70,000 workers.

According to the local border guards, the handover procedure took place around 1:00 pm on Monday. Major Mua Mi Cay, a political instructor at the Xin Cai Border Post, said the repatriated group consists of farmers doing seasonal jobs in Yunnan Province, China.

In 2020, the general department provided 132,100 tonnes of rice worth over 1.4 trillion VND. Deputy head of the State Reserves Goods Management Department Pham Viet Ha said when the central region was hit by floods last year, over 19,000 tonnes of rice worth 213 billion VND (9.26 million USD) along with search and rescue equipment valued at around 202.9 billion VND were earmarked for them.
