"It seems like the goalpost keeps moving every time we get more rainstorms."After weeks of intense storms and floods, officials at Waco Lake say it could be the middle of summer before lake facilities start opening back up.

Consistent heavy rainfall in the Waco area this past week flooded multiple homes along the Bosque, led to multiple water rescues, damaged county roads and closed others, officials said Monday.

Waco saw more than three inches of rain Thursday morning, causing the Brazos River water level to rise above the riverwalk through downtown. More rain chances are in the forecast

Rio Bosque Park was named not for stands of tall cottonwoods, willows, mesquite or any of the native plants. Instead, it was named for the dense tangle of invasive saltcedar obscuring an old bend in the Rio Grande when the land was given to El Paso by the federal government in the 1970s.
