A historic investment in broadband internet service across Pennsylvania will bring as much as $64 million for upgrades to Cambria and Somerset counties, state and federal officials said Thursday.

The Pennsylvania Broadband Development Authority announced Thursday that $204 million would be distributed to provide affordable and reliable high-speed internet across parts of the Commonwealth.

A more than $1.8 million project with both state and private investment project will help to expand broadband internet service in a portion of northern Crawford County.

The Broadband Development Authority initially said it would waive a key section of the 2004 law that restricts publicly owned broadband networks. The agency reversed course after public comments.
