A head on collision in Floyd County has sent three to the hospital. A Chevy Surburban driven by 19 year old Elizabeth Schmidt of Charles City was traveling westbound on B33 when she attempted to pass a road grader. The road grader caused a cloud of dust, causing poor visibility. At the same time a Ford Edge driven by 35 year old Brandon Hummel of Riceville was eastbound on B33. The two vehicles collided head on in the eastbound lane. Schmidt was taken by Airmed to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. Hummel was taken by ground ambulance to MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center in Mason City. A passenger in Schmidt’s vehicle, 20 year old Joseph Holzer of Charles City, was also taken to MercyOne in Mason City by ground ambulance. All three were wearing their seat belts at the time of the crash. The investigation into the accident continues.
Three Northeast Iowa residents have been injured in a 2 vehicle accident in Floyd County.
It happened at about 2:30pm Monday (May 10) on 165th Street, north of Floyd. A Westbound SUV driven by 19 year old Elizabeth Schmidt of Charles City, attempted to pass a road grader, also westbound. According to the Iowa State Patrol, the grader created a cloud of dust, obscuring drivers vision.
An Eastbound car, driven by Brandon Hummel of Riceville, collided with the SUV, head-on. The SUV driver, 19 year old Elizabeth Schmidt of Charles City, was air-cared to Mayo Hospital in Rochester.
Her passenger, 20 year old Joseph Holzer of Charles City, along with the other driver, 35 year old Brandon Hummel of Riceville, were taken by ambulance to a Mason City hospital for treatment. There was no condition report.

FLOYD COUNTY, Iowa - Three people were hospitalized following a two-vehicle crash Monday afternoon.
The Iowa State Patrol said Elizabeth Schmidt, 19, of Charles City, Brandon Hummel, 35, of Riceville, and Joseph Holzer, 20, of Charles City, were all injured in the crash at 165th St. east of Highway 218 near Floyd.
The patrol said Schmidt was attempting to pass a road grader when a cloud of dust made visibility poor. That’s when the vehicles collided.
Schmidt was taken by Airmed while the other two were taken by ground ambulance.
