Police Chief Vickers has been with the department since 2000 and worked in numerous positions, including as a patrolman, before "climbing the ranks," the department said in a Facebook post.

The tribe is asking to change from urban to rural status, which would apply to all 14,000 residents in the Ketchikan Gateway Borough.

Participants are required to hold a record of excellence within their agency and have an average of 21 years of experience in law enforcement.
