This week brought the West Coast its first true south swell of the new season, lighting up a majority of the most familiar waves in the Golden State.

Wedge surfers are a particular breed. The focus of surfing Newport's weird wave isn't generally making it. t's just sending it. And these folks are SENDING it.

The Wedge has been open for business since the end of April, but on May 17th, things really kicked up a notch.

When the sand, wind, and swell come together at the Wedge, it's not a place for an amateur surfer. It's a place for people who want to scare themselves silly.

People are back to milking its funky sidewave and pumping straight into massive barrels at Newport Beach's most recognizable wave, The Wedge.
