A water main break Wednesday night on the Mad River Pipeline prompted Humboldt Community Services district to issue a water-boil advisory for a few areas in an "abundance of caution."

The Eureka city council moved the Bay to Zoo Trail forward, approving $1 million of Measure H funds for the development of project.

The current corp yard at 945 W. 14th Street, is within a tsunami zone and has aged well beyond current structural standards – the newest of the buildings was completed in the 1980s, with other buildings seeing use since the 1950s – according to city staff. The city moved forward with the purchase, noting some construction impacts will be difficult to avoid – namely noise – but they will try and minimize disruptions to funerals and gatherings on the rest of the cemetery.

In conjunction with Professional Business Women's Month, the Kiwanis Club of Henderson Center will be honoring women in the community at a special luncheon to be held at the Adorni Center in Eureka on Oct. 25 at noon.

The regional water board approved a permit for the elk river wastewater treatment facility unanimously at a board meeting Thursday, but some environmental groups still had concerns. Local activists asked for more measurement locations for effluent discharged into Humboldt Bay and for the facility to meet regulatory requirements sooner, but the North Coast Regional Water Quality Control Board did not take these requests, while still requiring some environmental changes for the facility.
