Former Wildwood Mayor Pete Byron pleaded not guilty to the latest charges filed by the New Jersey Attorney General’s Office in an arraignment before Superior Court Judge Bernard DeLury on Friday.

With two-thirds of the governing body under state indictment, Wildwood has needed to rely on what’s called the “doctrine of necessity” to allow votes to take place where there is a conflict of interest, including one Wednesday about representing the city’s interest in a civil suit filed by the mayor and deputy mayor.
