Since joining FCNL a month ago, I’ve been blown away by the dedication of our lobbyists and advocates who are working to build the world that we seek. Our experts are willing to get into the weeds to push for the policies we need, while our advocates are tireless in lobbying Congress for important legislation. With the recent passage of a major funding deal, I wanted to give you an update on some of the issues that we have been working on.

Join us on Feb. 28 to hear about their recent trip to the region and its impact. Along with longtime FCNL community member Jonathan Evans, we will discuss how FCNL is using Quaker principles to advocate for a lasting peace in Israel and Palestine.

We joined a peace delegation, convened by Churches for Middle East Peace, on a two-week journey through the region. Our trip included extensive visits with patriarchs and heads of churches, pastors and local Christians, Jewish and Muslim leaders, heads of state and other political officials, peace activists, and human rights leaders in Israel, the occupied Palestinian territory, Jordan, and Lebanon.

We traveled to Israel, the occupied territories, Jordan and Lebanon, meeting with a wide range of religious, political and civil society leaders. At each stop, we shared our calls for a cease-fire, protecting civilians and returning hostages, and we pointed to the need to address the root causes of the violence, including the military occupation and blockade of Gaza.

In many ways, 2023 was a challenging year. Through this, FCNL’s lobbyists and advocates have remained steadfast in their work to advance peace and justice through public policy. We refused to be distracted, and as a result, our advocacy marked real progress. As we look towards a new year and Congress enters the second half of its 118th session, we see the potential for significant legislative victories at the beginning of 2024.
