Softball Takes the Series Over Clemson With a 7-6 Win

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – A five-run sixth inning propelled the Seminoles (42-5) over Clemson (33-13) 7-6 as the Noles clinched the series over the Tigers on Friday night. Clemson started the game with a home run in the top of the first inning from McKenzie Clark. The Noles responded immediately, with Kaley Mudge getting walked after an 11-pitch opening at-bat. Sydney Sherill then hit her third home run of the season down the right-field line to give the Seminoles an early 2-1 lead. That home run was Sherrill’s 37th in her career, moving her to fourth on the Seminole all-time home run list.   In the top of the third inning, Clark hit her second home run of the day, this time a two-run shot to put the Tigers up 3-2. Softball Takes Series Over UNC with a 9-2 Win

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The fourth-ranked Florida State softball team (39-5) captured the series over North Carolina (22-22) on Easter Sunday with a 9-2 win. Florida State got off to a quick start in game three, scoring two runs in the first inning off a Mack Leonard home run, her fifth of the season. Sydney Sherrill walked with one out and four pitches later Leonard hit a no-doubter to center field on a ball low in the zone. The Noles put up two more runs in the third inning on back-to-back doubles by Sherrill and Leonard. Brooke Blankenship led off the inning with a single through the left side and then advanced to second after Kaley Mudge grounded out to first base. Sherrill then doubled to right field to score Blankenship and after a pitching change, Leonard did the same to score Sherrill. Noles Fall to Hokies, 23-9

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. –  The No. 3 Florida State softball team (36-4, 16-4) fell to the No. 5 Virginia Tech Hokies (29-4, 13-0) 23-9 in seven innings in front of a sell-out crowd at JoAnne Graf Field in Tallahassee, Fla. Today’s crowd marks the fifth largest in stadium history. The Seminoles were down by 11 at the top of the fourth inning until Kalei Harding hit a grand slam at the bottom of the fourth to put four runs on the board. Kaley Mudge reached on a fielder's choice to second base. Brooke Blankenship got out at second base, Jahni Kerr advanced to third base and Hallie Wacaser scored. Then, Mudge advanced to second and Kerr scored on a wild pitch, closing the gap for the Seminoles, 11-6. Mack Leonard then scored a three-run home run in order to push the score to 11-9. The Seminoles scored all of their nine runs in four hits during the fourth inning. Both teams went scoreless in the fifth but the Hokies responded with 10 runs in the seventh inning. Softball Cruises to Victories Over UNF and Jacksonville

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The third-ranked Florida State softball team (32-2) earned a pair of wins over UNF (26-10) and Jacksonville (11-15) on Wednesday. Florida State took down the Osprey 12-3 in the afternoon before capping the night with a 6-3 over the Dolphins. FSU 12, UNF 3 A five-run first inning helped lead the Seminoles to a 12-3 win over North Florida in the first of two games on Wednesday. Florida State finished the game with a season-high 16 hits and tied a season-high with 12 runs scored. Kaley Mudge led the game off with a single to right field. Sydney Sherrill then doubled to centerfield to put runners on second and third with no outs for Mack Leonard. Leonard made it back-to-back doubles to give the Noles an early 2-0 lead.
