Tigers Take Season Opener in Four Sets

CLEMSON, S.C. - The Clemson volleyball team (1-0) opened the 2022 season in dominant fashion behind a powerful 26-kill performance from junior Camryn Hannah. The Tigers fought to take the match 3-1 (25-23, 23-25, 25-17, 25-23) against Austin Peay (1-1) in Jervey Gym on Friday evening. The first two sets were a back and forth battle between the Tigers and Governors after Hannah and freshman Brooklyn Conner staked claim to the net picking up multiple kills and blocks, respectively. In her Tiger debut, Conner led the team with six blocks (one solo, five assisted). The Tigers were able to clinch the first set but dropped the second, as both resulted in 25-23 set scores. Clemson took control of the third set pushing the score to 15-7 by the first media timeout after freshman Mia McGrath recorded four kills over a seven-point span. 4-H Trash to Treasure Winners Recognized at Cannon County Good Ole Days May 20, 2021 By: Sarah Ferrell, 4-H Youth Development Agent III One man’s trash is another man’s treasure. Americans produce more than four pounds of trash per person per day, amounting to 20 percent of the world’s waste. Although recycling rates have increased over the past thirty years, out of the four pounds of trash produced in the U.S. each day, 1.5 pounds is either composted or recycled while another 0.5 pounds is incinerated. However, more than 50 percent of waste still ends up buried in landfills. This is an issue because landfills are becoming overran with waste. Although recycling is encouraged, we need to do a better job at educating the public on how to recycle and the proper items to recycle. Households have switched to single-stream recycling where all recyclable materials are mixed in a single bin at home which made it easier to recycle waste. Local 4-H Members Participate In Sub-Regional Contest April 20, 2021 Abigail Cook What are your greatest fears?  For most people, public speaking is at the top of the list.  However, this is a skill that is important no matter what career field you enter. Many Cannon County 4-H members are learning to overcome their nerves when speaking to a group. Congratulations to all the 4-H members which competed in the Cannon County 4-H Public Speaking Contest either in-person or virtually. After winning their school classroom and county competition, three 4-H members competed in the Sub-Region Speech Contest on April 13, 2021 in Lebanon, TN against 10 other counties.
