Brought Status News Today

The state hasn’t seen conditions this dry since August, the U.S. Drought Monitor says.

Bucks, Dauphin, Huntingdon, Lancaster, Lebanon, Montgomery, Northampton, and Perry Counties have returned to normal status, officials said Friday.

Rains last week weren’t enough to lift the area out of drought conditions, but meteorologists expect El Niño conditions to set in soon.

Drought has long been the norm for California. But the state had a historically wet winter, and El Niño is threatening again.

Most areas got a little bit of rain Thursday but it wasn’t enough to break free from a moderate drought for about half of North Carolina, including Cleveland, Catawba, Lincoln, and Burke counties.

Officials said there are still persistent precipitation deficits statewide, and asks residents and non-farm businesses to voluntarily conserve water.
