The $400 million allocated for transportation projects would help unlock an estimated $1 billion in federal infrastructure spending, state officials say.

Leaders, advocates, and experts from across Maine are praising the Governor’s new biennial budget proposal.

The funds will be used to make downtown safer and more attractive for development, improve parking and build a facility to ferry Portland Naval Shipyard employees and other commuters to work.

The family-owned general contractor focuses on road and marine construction across Maine and northern New England. Their work “will benefit people who live, work, and travel in Maine for decades to come,” said MDOT’s chief.

Construction continues moving forward to replace a new bridge and revamped port of entry connecting Maine and Canada to save trucks from a long detour due to load restrictions on an aging 100-year-old bridge.

The arrays will generate enough solar energy to power about 1,000 homes and reduce carbon emissions by up to 2,000 metric tons annually.
