The outbreak of the coronavirus in early 2020 caused significant disruptions to the Australasian tournament schedule but a run of six events in the space of eight weeks ensured the Order of Merit was completed and Kennedy could be pronounced its champion. Winner of the New Zealand Open in March last year – the final event before the temporary suspension of the season – Kennedy added the inaugural event of The Players Series at Rosebud Country Club to his tally of season victories to go with two top-fives and a tie for seventh at last week’s Golf Challenge NSW Open at Concord Golf Club.

The teen from Surfers Paradise Golf Club did something at Pelican Waters that went way beyond his impressive 72-73 effort to miss the cut by two strokes.  He had seasoned pros three times his age, like fellow Queenslander Michaael Wright, doffing their caps to him.   He had 2017 Northern Territory PGA  champion Travis Smyth retweeting Dowling’s cool story with the tag “How good is this.”

A member at Victoria Golf Club, Bunque spotted Geoff Ogilvy’s name on the tee sheet last year and reached out to the former US Open champion who is this week serving as host at Rosebud. Paired together at the St Andrews Beach Invitational organised by Mike Clayton last June, Bunque and Ogilvy have remained in contact ever since, the 23-year-old seeking guidance before turning professional straight after finishing runner-up at the Master of the Amateurs earlier this month.

Published - 2 months By - Tony Webeck He’s led since day one but No.1 seed Deyen Lawson has declared that any of the 24 qualifiers are capable of walking away as champion as the Gippsland Super 6 moves into the match play phase on Sunday. The top eight qualifiers through 54 holes of stroke play have earned a direct path through to round two and the final 16 with Blake Windred and Brett Rankin securing a spot in the top eight in a playoff that consigned Bryden Macpherson to ninth spot. Macpherson and the remaining qualifiers now need to win five six-hole matches to take the title with Justin Warren, Michael Wright, Cory Crawford, David Bransdon and Rick Kulacz having to make their way past a seven-for-five playoff to qualify for the match play.
