This building behind me is one of san franciscos great landmarks, a designated landmark . It is on the National Register list of historic buildings. She will lead us on a walk through the building as we move along and talk about that as well. This is a fund and a unique place in san francisco, big, open space. A couple of times a week this is filled with a marketplace. 100 farmers. They are here on saturday. The Farmers Market is out front, and also on tuesdays we have about 60 farmers out front. And that is on the plaza . On saturday it is back here, and on tuesday it is in the front. I guess i am interested in what happens. We have a
Community. I think its our job as public educators to give them this access and give them this opportunity to see that their efforts are being appreciated beyond their immediate reach. You have to blend this idea of Community Network with computer equipment with training and with support. We can pull all that together, then weve got it. Good afternoon. Im the chief building inspector with the Department Building inspection. Welcome to our Brown Bag Lunch series. This is the regular third thursday of every month event. We are finishing up with a talk about the outside lambs, an area that was previously considered uninhabitable. Uninhabitable due to fog. [inaudible] but we have with us a couple of real experts in outside plans. I am outside in outside lands. Woody has devoted a lot of his time and effort to the outside lands. We are a nonprofit in our 10th year, and we are dedicated to preserving and sharing the history of San Francisco. It is great to have you here. And pat, who has a lot of knowledge and brought to be sure today a lot of [inaudible] , and she can share with that she can share that with us as well, and we only regret that harvey the wonder dog could not be here. People think that New Buildings are earthquake proof and dont understand the performance the building will have so we want a transparent of letting people know is my building going to be safe in it after an earthquake . Is my building so dangers i should be afraid of being injured . So developing a ranking system for buildings would be very important and i think for some of the larger apartment buildings that are soft story we need a mandatory program to fix the buildings, not over night and not without financial help or incentive, but a phased program over time that is reasonable so we can fix those buildings, and for the smaller soft story buildings and especially in San Francisco and the houses over garages we need information and incentives and coaxing the people along and each of the owners want their house to be safe enough.
