In one corner was Collins, charged with removing the sweet Italianate villa Willow Grove from the billion-dollar path of the Powerhouse juggernaut, aka the milk crate. Facing him was Meade, tireless defender of Parramatta’s rapidly dwindling heritage, including Willow Grove.

The site is the third-oldest residence in Brisbane. It is situated on the Brisbane River at Kangaroo Point and was built in stages from 1851 to the 1930s. Shafston House was designed by one of Brisbane’s “most sacred architects”, Robin Dods.
