The Minister of Higher Education, Science and Innovation, Blade Nzimande, has hailed the achievements of Square Kilometre Array (SKA) South Africa project as a fitting way to mark Africa Day. Today marks 10 years since the decision for South Africa and Australia to host the SKA, the massive international radio astronomy initiative which, on completion, will be the world's largest radio telescope.

A number of pupils finishing school in Blackburn with Darwen will be receiving a share of £250,000 in bursaries to help with their careers.

Recipients have a chance to better their lives and are supported throughout their studies

As part of efforts to bring more skilled professionals into the public sector and specifically the built environment, the Department of Public Works and Infrastructure (DPWI) annually awards bursaries to pupils who display excellence and enroll for courses in the built environment for their tertiary education. The DPWI has a Bursary Programme linked to an overall Skills Pipeline project whereby pupils are encouraged on school level to consider careers in the built environment.
