A fire broke out in a 24-storey residential building in Mumbai on Thursday following which at least 135 people were safely rescued from there, civic officials said.

The blaze erupted at 3.40 am on the third floor of the building located in New Hind Mill Compound at MHADA colony in Ghodapdeo area of Byculla where government has given flats to people, mainly mill workers, they said., Mumbai News, Times Now

The fire was reported inside the Saiffi Manzil building in Byculla's Sakhali Street 3.

At least five persons were rescued from an adjacent structure after a fire broke out in a two-storey shop in Mumbai's Byculla area on Wednesday, an official. Nobody was injured in the incident, he said.

The fire was confined to six-seven hutments and dense smoke enveloped the area because of the fire.

The fire was brought under control with the help of fire officers and 3 fire engines were present at the spot from the Byculla fire brigade.

A massive fire was reported at a wood godown in the Byculla area of Mumbai on Monday morning, but there was no report of any casualty, fire brigade officials said.
