December 5th is a sad day for me every year, and this morning, Facebook once again reminded me of the passing of the great Tim Marcum. Today marks five years since the demise of the best coach in AFL history, and it only felt appropriate for me to come out of my retirement to heap some praise on what has inevitably become one of the forgotten heroes of the Arena Football League.

Today, we bid farewell to arguably the most mismanaged, underappreciated, yet tremendously fascinating franchises in the history of the Arena Football League. Though the handwriting has been on the wall for weeks, the Pittsburgh Power have officially been closed for business, becoming the third team from the 2014 season to have left the league for 2015.

July 27, 2008... Exactly three years ago to the day. The San Jose SaberCats took on the Philadelphia Soul in the biggest debacle of an Arena Football League game ever at New Orleans Arena in the Big Easy. It was a joke of a game, and it was a joke that Commissioner Baker decided that he was going to resign his post during ArenaBowl week. Glad to see that things have only become more and more of a joke since that point.

The city of Washington D.C. is known for its politics, so it's only apt to make a political comparison on the day Washington AFL officially became a thing.

The Arena Football League is about to have its seventh commissioner. On Tuesday, the AFL announced that Kurz has been appointed as the first-ever League President, which will open the door for a new commissioner to be named within the next few days, sources tell ArenaFan.com.

It isn't a big secret that the last few years have been challenging for the Arena Football League and for all of us at the staff of ArenaFan. However, it's still our league, and we should continue to embrace that.
