Cabinet received an update on the Covid-19 Outbreak, which was presented by the Minister of Defence and War Veterans Affairs as chairman of the Inter-Ministerial Task Force on the Covid-19 Outbreak.
Cabinet was informed that as of 12 March, 2021 Zimbabwe’s cumulative Covid-19 cases stood at 36 423, with 33 996 recoveries and 1 496 deaths. The recovery rate is 93 percent, with 34 722 cases attributed to local transmission. There are 931 active cases, and the cumulative number of infected Health Care Workers has rises from 4 008 to 4 210 with 18 deaths. Cabinet noted that preparations for the opening of schools have reached an advanced stage with examinations classes having as opened scheduled on 15 March 2021. ISLAMABAD: Information Minister Shibli Faraz on Tuesday did not rule out the government’s offer of the Senate deputy chairman slot to the Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) as the federal cabinet expressed its confidence of winning the upcoming elections for the two coveted offices of the upper house on March 12.
The opposition termed the offer an attempt to create cracks within the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM).
On Monday, a senior government representative had said that Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) was not announcing its candidate for the office of deputy chairman and was keeping the slot open to place itself in a better bargaining position.

The federal cabinet has approved introducing a new budget to slap taxes amounting to Rs140 billion to meet a condition of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), as the cost of tax exemptions swelled by another one-fifth to nearly Rs1.4 trillion in the current fiscal year.
The cabinet meeting, chaired by Prime Minister Imran Khan, approved the Income Tax Second Amendment Act 2021 after resisting the IMF demand for over a year.
