The Court declined to accede to a plea by BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari to stop the January 22 rally. Adhikari had raised concerns that violence may ensue if the TMC rally is conducted on the Ram Mandi inauguration day.
The Court passed the order on petitions that raised concern that ordinary hospital goers were being affected and that influential persons were being shielded from investigation by the CBI and the ED.
The Court expressed concern that arbitration in India is being burdened by increasing judicial interference at every stage, which demotes India’s standing as a business-friendly destination.
The Calcutta High Court, however, declined to quash the ED case against the TMC leader in the matter, opining that Abhishek Banerjee's petition to quash the same was premature.
The Calcutta High Court recently highlighted that arbitral awards passed by an arbitrator appointed unilaterally, that is, only by one of the parties to the arbitral dispute, are void and unenforceable in law.
