A recent study from Columbia Universitys Mailman School of Public Health suggests that pregnancy may accelerate ageing in young women. Analyzing DNA samples and reproductive histories of 1,735 participants in the Philippines, researchers found that each pregnancy correlated with two to three months of additional biological ageing. Lead author Calen Ryan stressed the need for support for new mothers, urging further research into pregnancys impact on womens health.

Each pregnancy is equivalent to 4 months of accelerated aging. Many women claim they have neglected their own needs in the process of becoming a mother and that the milestone has caused them to age.

Research from the Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health found that women who had been pregnant in the past looked “biologically older" than those who had never carried a child.

The study's author said, "Strong medical, social and nutritional support for new moms is always the best policy over the long run," he said.
