It seems each and every month our paychecks don't seem to go as far as they once did. If we have any money left over it doesn't seem like much. When that happens we either have to cut back on things we love or get another job. Sometimes we have to do both.

When those massive rains came in earlier this summer a lot of businesses on Paramount had to punt. They had to close. They got to reopen for a bit just until more rain came. It was a mess. They were closed again. Oh, and for a long time.

We really thought things were getting better. The rain was getting better. The Paramount/Olsen area was starting to get where the roads were manageable. Restaurants and businesses in the area were looking forward to being able to open. Hummer's got to open up one day. Calico County was looking forward to opening up today. Tyler's may have been able to open soon.

It wont be long before Calico County, located at 2401 S. 58th St. in Fort Smith, marks a huge milestone -- more than 10 million cinnamon rolls served. Since the restaurant opened in 1984, slews of visitors have enjoyed the lagniappe brought to every table, whether for breakfast, lunch or dinner -- hot, fresh-out-of-the-oven cinnamon rolls wrapped in napkins in a basket, un-iced, perfect on their own or with a smear of butter.

We have a lot of fabulous places to eat here in Amarillo. Sometimes when you get up on the weekend you might not be in as big of a hurry as you are during the week. You want a day or two to enjoy life.

Local restaurants and a non-profit are offering Thanksgiving meal options for those who may not be able to cook a feast themselves.
