Global hiring decline in 2023 impacted major IT companies like Cognizant and Capgemini. Indian IT firms also faced headcount reductions. Everest Group attributed layoffs to Covid over-hiring, while Gen AI influenced hiring decisions.

Cognizant: Top Indian IT service providers like Tata Consultancy Services, Infosys and Wipro too have seen a drop in their headcount, which declined by around 70,000 in total in the fiscal year ended March 31.

India Business News: The total number of employees hired by major IT companies Cognizant and Capgemini decreased globally by 151,607 in 2023 compared to 2022, according to

US-based Cognizant hired only just over 60,000, while French IT consultancy firm Capgemini hired about 61,182 in 2023. Cognizant had hired 1,32,000, while Capgemini recruited 1,40,789 employees in 2022.

The revenues in Q1 of FY23 stood at €5.73 billion ($5.92 billion). On a constant currency basis, revenue declined 3.3%. Capgemini follows January to December as its financial year.
