Tibetan Monks Geshe Tsewang Thinley and Geshe Tenzin Gyatso paid a visit to the South Laguna Community Garden Park to lead a meditation and offer blessings for peace in honor of World Kindness Day last Sunday, Nov. 12.

It might be surprising to learn that summer is actually one of the most challenging growing seasons in coastal Southern California. Because of our proximity to the ocean and the dominant marine layer, early summer weather is too cool to grow summer crops, too warm to grow cool season crops, and our humidity welcomes pathogens. 

The tomato, object of horticultural obsession, intrigue, debate and less frequently bliss, is the topic of my first official Laguna Beach Garden Column.

Last Mother’s Day Sunday, Geshe Lopsang Tseten, an esteemed Tibetan monk traveling from India, visited the South Laguna Community Garden Park as one of three stops on his 48-hour visit to Laguna Beach. It was the third time that Tibetan monks had visited the Garden Park to chant and offer blessings. 

Laguna Canyon Conservancy to Host Presentation on Randall Preserve, Formerly Banning RanchRecent media headlines announced the successful permanent preservation of 387 coastal Orange County acres previously known as Banning Ranch, now called the Randall Preserve. Well-deserved congratulations for this accomplishment are due to the Trust for Public Land, Mountains Recreation and Conservation Authority and especially to the Banning Ranch Conservancy. 

Surfing legend Dick Metz will present "Boyhood Adventures in Laguna" on Feb. 28 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Susi Q Community Center, Great Room. The event is hosted by the Laguna Beach Historical Society.
