It wasn’t as if you blinked, you missed them. But it was close, as Carter Prenger of Helias won both of his matches by first-period falls Friday to open the Class 3 state wrestling championships at Mizzou Arena.

Only two matches went the distance as the Helias Crusaders beat the Capital City Cavaliers 53-24 in a Central Missouri Activities Conference dual Tuesday. “Some of those closer matches will really come in clutch,” Helias coach Weston Keleher said. “We were able to come out on top in a couple and we may be able to steal a district seed that way.”

The Jefferson City Jays took a chance. It paid off win a winning way. “We had a plan and the kids executed the plan,” Jays coach Nathan Redcay said Wednesday night after Jefferson City defeated the Helias Crusaders 42-21 in a Central Missouri Activities Conference dual at Fleming Fieldhouse. “They really wanted this win and it showed.”

The Helias Crusaders were looking forward to a tough dual. But a handful of forfeits took away any drama. “The dual was really over before it even started,” Helias coach Weston Keleher said after the Crusaders opened Central Missouri Activities Conference action Tuesday night with a 50-24 victory against the Hickman Kewpies at Rackers Fieldhouse.

On Monday, Nov. 28, Pack 80 Cub Scouts proved that they have mastered the skill of turtle racing.

Helias Catholic High School will be celebrating Homecoming next week.

SEARCY, ARKANSAS — Carson Hayes, a senior studying biochemistry, is among more than 1,200 Harding University students included on the deans list for grades achieved during the spring 2022 semester.

The Helias Crusaders started Thursday with 11 Class 2 state qualifiers. They’ll start today with 11. “It was a strong start for us,” Helias coach Weston Keleher said. “The whole group was ready to wrestle.” Helias went 9-2 in first-round matches Thursday morning at Mizzou Arena, with eight of the wins coming by fall. Those bonus points helped the Crusaders to second place in the team standings with 40 points.
