Hello fellow anglers. Memorial Day is here, and people will be out enjoying a beautiful weekend forecast. We deserve to have three days in a row of warm weather. We all need to slow down a little and take your time getting to your destination.

Hello fellow anglers, it was just a few weeks ago I was planning a trip with my cousin to go to the Snake River for a fishing derby in May. So many things have changed and we all will have to adjust to make sure that we can make those plans again. Hopefully in our near future.

Heading into Monday and the Martin Luther King Jr. Day holiday were looking at cloudy skies with a daytime high around 50 degrees. City, state and federal offices are closed as are schools. Friends of the Carson City Librarys Browsers Book Store at 711 East Washington St., is open from noon to 5 p.m.

Meet in the parking area next to the ranch house at Silver Saddle Ranch off of Carson River Road. Please join us for an 8-mile round-trip hike that traverses most of the "Escape from Prison Hill" trail.

Memorial Day Weekend (May 24-27) is coming up, just around the corner, the weather is forecast for gorgeous conditions, and for countless folks in this general area, it will be their first big outdoor adventure of 2013. So, where to go on that weekend?

This is my annual reminder that many California waters will close to fishing on Friday, November 15. So if you want to fish any of them, you better hustle because you are rapidly running out of time. Those waters will not re-open until the last Saturday in April next year (April 26, 2014), and that is a long, long time to wait to wet your line.

Carson Water Subconservancy District will host its two-day “Get on the Bus!” tour of the Carson River Watershed June 11-12 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Expert guides will cover topics ranging from water rights, river-restoration projects, and water quality and quantity to floodplain management, regenerative agriculture, and more.

A late Thursday afternoon walk this week along the Carson River in Carson City found a mating pair of Great Horned Owls in a giant cottonwood tree just east of the river bank.

First off, I want to send a huge shout-out to the first responders, firefighters, and their support staff. We dove head-first into fire season, and like always, they work tirelessly to keep us safe. Thank you. Parks and Recreation has been leading a series of guided informative hikes along various trails.
