CARSON CITY – Brian Sandoval became the first governor in the nation to be “taken for a ride” in Google’s self-driving car. Sandoval went for a ride in the modified Toyota Prius from the capital city halfway through the Washoe Valley before returning to the Department of Motor Vehicles office where the car and a duplicate were on display.

Reno police are now involved in the investigation involving Friday nights chase from Carson City to Sand Mountain Recreation Area in Churchill County in which a possible suspect in a double homicide earlier in Washoe Valley was killed during a shootout with authorities.

A 31-year-old Carson City woman was arrested Monday, 12:55 a.m. in the area of Joshua and Kennedy streets on suspicion of DUI and child endangerment charges, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said. According to the arrest report, officers observed a vehicle pulled over, come to a stop, make a u-turn and then go through a stop sign.

In the early hours of Jan. 28, a fire started at 8421 Wayzata Blvd, Golden Valley. No one was reported injured, but three businesses sustained damage.
