The approximate turbine locations for a proposed wind farm in Stephens County were recently released by La Casa Wind, LLC. The project encompasses an area south of Caddo along FM 717 and FM 207 in southwest Stephens County. The map shows 59 approved turbine locations located along FM 717, south of Hwy. 180 and mostly east of FM 717. Seven approved locations are just west of FM 717. There are 31 approved locations north of FM 207 with the remaining 28 locations located south of FM 207.

County commissioners approved Monday, March 11 a draft agreement with La Casa Wind, LLC for a tax abatement agreement regarding a proposed wind farm in Stephens County. The agreement will allow La Casa an annual PILOT (Payment In Lieu of Taxes) payment of at least $445,051 for the 10-year abatement period. That payment amount is considered to be the floor amount. The total amount owed each year will be the greater of 50% of all property taxes abated by the agreement or $445,051.

The Stephens County Commissioners Court held the first of three possible public hearings Monday, Aug. 21 to receive public input prior to approval of an application for a Chapter 213 Tax Abatement from NextEra Energy Resources, operating as La Casa Wind, LLC. For nearly two hours commissioners heard from opposing parties from Stephens County and surrounding areas.
