Cafes and restaurants are concerned they will be forced to cut staff hours and bring in dreaded barcode menus if the Fair Work Commission increases rates by more than 5 per cent this year.

The government has predicted that wage growth will hit 4 per cent next year, then quickly settle to 3.25 per cent unless union deals lock in bigger pay rises.
