A City of Austin ordinance decriminalizing low-level marijuana possession will remain in effect. On Wednesday, a judge killed a lawsuit brought by the Texas Attorney General trying to reverse the move.

Despite retaliation by state officials against cities including Denton that have taken similar steps, some Dallas officials are hoping to decriminalize low levels of marijuana in the city.

More than 900 signatures in support of the Lockhart Freedom Act were delivered to City Hall. The goal is to get the proposition on the November ballot.

Local nonprofit advocacy groups Mano Amiga and Ground Game Texas announced they've collected enough signatures to put the issue up for a vote.
