Cayla Cogan News Today

On Friday, Campbell Flynn’s play and presence lifted the Marlins while getting in the heads of the Clarkston Wolves, as she led Mercy to a 25-23, 25-13, 25-20 victory in the Division 1 semifinal at Kellogg Arena.

When making plans for a trip, it’s not likely one is going to opt for Battle Creek over the Cayman Islands. Don’t count Clarkston volleyball's Ali Smith in that mix.

Cayla Cogan put down 12 kills and led Clarkston to a 25-17, 25-21, 25-11 win over L’Anse Creuse North, punching the Wolves’ ticket to Battle Creek for a state semifinal on Friday.

Cayla Cogan and her Clarkston volleyball teammates erased some bad memories Tuesday night.

The Clarkston Wolves find themselves on the verge of avenging that moment as they advanced to next Tuesday’s D1 quarterfinal following a 25-17, 19-25, 25-9, 25-13 win over Flushing in a regional final at Grand Blanc High School on Thursday.

After dropping a set in both the district semifinal and district final, Clarkston coach Ali Smith was pleased to see her team put together a more complete match on Tuesday when it defeated Hartland 25-18, 25-20, 25-21 in a D1 regional semifinal at Grand Blanc High School.

The Clarkston Wolves overcame a rough start to defeat the Walled Lake Northern Knights in four sets Thursday night 25-21, 20-25, 25-13 and 25-13 to claim another district title, their second straight and third in the last four years.

Cayla Cogan and her coach, Ali Smith, never questioned whether or not she’d make it back for her own Senior Night for Clarkston volleyball, despite the horrific way her junior season ended. And for a minute, when she took over late in the third set of Tuesday’s Senior Night match against the other OAA Red unbeaten, Bloomfield Hills, it was like nothing had ever happened at all.

On Thursday, the third-ranked Clarkston Wolves made a big step toward that goal with a 25-18, 25-21, 28-26 win on the road over rival Lake Orion.
