Gov. Kathy Hochul announced the start of construction for 950 Broadway LLC in east Buffalo. The $13.5 million project, by Cedarland Development LLC, will renovate and convert a 50,000-square-foot, vacant and underutilized building in east Buffalo into a mixed-use development, featuring 28 affordable housing units, a free Head Start child education program, and a proposed indoor urban farm.

"All these projects show we care about the community," Gov. Kathy Hochul said. "This is a community that matters and has a story to continue telling."

Plans for the vacant, 54,540-square-foot building at 1175 Delaware Ave. will see it renovated into at least 70 market-rate apartments.

Cooper Union has staged an exhibition featuring architectural models, a former department store in Buffalo will be converted into housing, and more.

The two-story, 3,000-square-foot building is listed for $750,000 with Hunt Commercial Real Estate’s Alan Hastings.

Cedarland’s Michigan & Best LLC paid $176,000 for the land according to documents filed Dec. 21 in the Erie County clerk’s office.
