One of the capital's biggest annual events is this weekend and that means taking drivers off some major central Ottawa streets Saturday and Sunday.

Ottawa City Council has given the green light for two residential towers to be built across the street from the Central Experimental Farm, despite concerns from the federal government about the effects that shadows cast by the towers would have on research.

A development proposal that will ultimately see three mixed-use highrises constructed on Baseline Road at Fisher Avenue has been approved by the city’s planning and housing committee, despite concerns about shadowing on the nearby Central Experimental Farm.

The proposal filed by Joey Theberge, owner of Theberge Homes, involves plans for two 24-storey highrises and a 32-storey tower at 780 Baseline Rd.
