The Uttarkhand government on Wednesday announced Rs 1.5 lakh interim relief to affected families who have been shifted to safer locations after land subsidence in Joshimath led to houses and establishments to develop cracks.

Joshimath crisis: Hotel Inn and Hotel Mount View, which have developed more cracks, will be dismantled in a few days, officials had said earlier, adding that all residents have been safely evacuated from the `unsafe zones`. According to sources, the hotel owners will meet the district magistrate in their push for compensation.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Wednesday visited the subsidence-hit Joshimath town and announced interim assistance for the affected people even as protests by residents of Joshimath who are demanding compensation on the lines of that given for Badrinath stalled the demolition of unsafe structures in the area.
