A New York man was fined $5,000 and sentenced to a year probation after previously admitting he smuggled three Burmese pythons into the U.S. from Canada in 2018.

Calvin Bautista was caught smuggling three Burmese pythons inside his pants while riding a bus across the border from Canada into Clinton County.

The case has been a “wake-up” call for the New York man, his attorney says.
