Boris Johnson has been criticised by the families of Covid-19 victims after he defended the actions of Downing Street staff against accusations of holding parties during the pandemic.

The former health secretary left the inquiry where he was giving evidence about how ready the UK was to deal with a pandemic to shouts of "murderer" by protesters, and was confronted by one bereaved family member dressed as the grim reaper.

The UK public inquiry launches with the promise of a robust look into whether more could have been done.

Persinger's mother Susan was killed by COVID-19 this January, after contracting the virus in hospital last December. His wife Katie, a care home manager, succumbed to the virus in February.
