On Friday, May 7, the Washington Township School District joined the School Nutrition Association in celebrating the eighth annual National School Lunch Hero Day. The staff was recognized for its “dedication, hard work, tenacity and ability to adapt to change on a daily basis.” “In March of 2020, our normal operation just stopped,” Washington Township food service manager Jennifer Mullin said. “Everything that we were used to doing changed, and we only had one day to adjust to the ‘new normal.’ We stopped serving meals for one day only. On March 17, we were serving meals remotely with lots of help from the operations and transportation staff out of the high school 9/10 parking lot.

Since COVID-19 protocols prevented student volunteers from assembling and selling hundreds of hoagies, as in years past, Liscio’s agreed to sponsor a promotion that donated 25% from the sale of hoagies and hoagie trays purchased using a special code in their stores from Feb. 1-8 to the Helping Hands hoagie sale fund.
