Reporter this is one of many areas across town where heavy winds knocked down massive trees. Check out the root of that tree. Road. This is edge hill drive. We watched as crews wrapped up trying to clear this tree. Minutes. But they had been here for about four hours. We talked to homeowners and neighbors across charlotte. A tree fell on a condo in the will more area. It caused so much damage inside, that structure has been deemed unsafe. We saw crews working to clear a tree that fell on a vintage seen Power Outages, two gas leeks, and trees down within a three block radius. A nearby homeowner told us the impact knocked down one of the trees in her yard and damaged her fence and she described the moment it happened. He started barking. We heard a loud rustling. Me the man killed in that crash was 68yearold, James Howard Cook of lexington, North Carolina. Officials also say that cook reported engine trouble before the crash. A spokesman at the Union County Sheriffs office said the first reports of this crash came in around 6 45 this evening. Very heavy rain. A couple minutes ago we werent able to see that far ahead of us because of the rain. Were just to the north of the strongest part of the storm. I mentioned just north of high sholes, very heavy rain and strong winds. Its moving very fast. The storm is under a Severe Thunderstorm Warning until 12 45, its moving at 60 to 70 Miles Per Hour. So it will be here and gone but we had to really slow down our speed, both hands on the wheel because of the winds that were so strong. Weve been hearing reports of downed power lines and trees. Were likely going to see some of those throughout areas of lincoln and Gaston County with these strong thunderstorms. Were getting near the lincolnton area, light rain still continuing here in storm cam. Still some very dark ominous clouds ahead of us. Theyre moving very fast here this afternoon.
