it doesn t. you that s the basic point. there s some hope on people s parts that maybe the sheer application of force would cause somebody to put a bullet in gadhafi s head. that is becoming increasingly unlikely. the problem we ve got now is we have a u.n. resolution that did nothing but say we ll set up a safe haven in libya and authorized use of force. by the way, we re way beyond a no-fly zone, because as you point out we re taking out ground troops. there s no way it s not working. do we want it to work in the ç long run? we may be wrong. do we like the rebels? are there al qaeda elements are the can the mujahedeen end up being al qaeda. do we want them to win? the answer is yes to all of those. i think we probably do want them to win is because the alternative is gadhafi. that s a terrible idea. some rebels would like democracy but it s not clear they know what is it. there s a bunch of tribesmen and undoubtly salafi jihadists like al qaeda in there.
