An Italian man has been crushed to death by thousands of wheels of hard cheese.

An Italian man has been crushed to death after thousands of wheels of cheese fell on him, authorities told Agence France-Presse.

Giacomo, an Italian septuagenarian, was crushed to death as cheese wheels - a form of storing cheese - each weighing 40 kgs. It took 12 hours to find his body.

Giacomo Chiapparini, a 74-year-old producer of Grana Padano cheese, died after the metal shelves in his warehouse collapsed, sending thousands of cheese wheels tumbling.

The 22-year-old driver, a U.S. citizen who legally declared the cheese, will face charges for the failed smuggling attempt.
