Each year, students at Desert Pines High School in Las Vegas write down a gift they would like for the holidays, and why its important to them. The 300 staff members at the school use their own money to try to fulfill the wishes of hundreds of students.

The teacher fought back tears as she went on to read some of items that kids were wishing for.

Funds raised during the annual campaign go to purchase new toys for area children — or gift cards for older youth — who live in the Lake Pend Oreille School District. Every Christmas, the Lions help roughly 1,000 area children, from Sandpoint to Clark Fork and all points in between.

It all started with a TikTok video. Desert Pines High School teacher Cheri Guy, or Ms. Guy, put out an emotional plea to her followers.
