ST. GEORGEN, Austria (AP) — In a standoff over the rising number of asylum-seekers in Austria, the mayor of a small village has defied the federal government and ordered tents housing the migrants to be dismantled.

A dozen tents, housing around 100 migrants, were dismantled in the town of St. Georgen im Attergau, in a dispute with Austrian authorities about housing for migrants.

Austria has still not found a solution to a lack of accommodation for thousands of asylum seekers, after negotiations between the federal and state governments on Wednesday failed to reach an agreement.

The needs of refugees from Ukraine as well as of neighbouring countries are constantly increasing.
