tammy: the driver made it out without serious injuries, but the home is destroyed. hope hanselman has the story from alexander. hope: when bad luck has a way of coreening in to our lives. we were actually leaving and we heard squealing noises, tires squealing. then this big crash. hope: milton knew to expect worse. we looked at each other and said, someone s hit a car now. hope: he didn t realize that the tiny house he was building would be the second home he d lose in just two weeks. milton was only home that day taking inventory for an insurance company, after a fire destroyed this house. there was fire in the back, side of the house. it breached through the attic. hope: the fire department is the same fire chief and his wife, they live just up the road. they responded. hope: and the only reason the crash was caught on video was out of a neighbor s effort to help. he put up a camera to watch the house. to help just keep an eye on things since we re not
leaving. the owner matthew rogers has had his car broken into three times. it s horrible. there s tons of drugs. there s tons of prostitution. we have only been in here since may essentially and we have already had two people s cars broken into, one of our employees was held up at gunpoint and we had a drunk driver crash into two of our employee s cars. reporter: some fed-up business owners met with police asking for help. we are going to be spending a lot of time in these different areas because we do recognize the fact that these businesses provide a lot of jobs to our community. reporter: alive and radiant hopes the extra patrols will keep their workers safe. but for some neighboring businesses, it s too late. i hope it gets better, you know, but we won t be around to see it get better because we ll be out of here as soon as we can. reporter: aside from relying on the police, these companies are teaming up. they are sharing crime information and reminding the
with scott pelley. reporting tonight from washington. pelley: good evening. welcome to our western edition. today after years of extraordinary measures to keep the economy from plunging into a depression, the federal reserve said it will now ease up on its stimulus program. the job market has improved that much. in the announcement made here in washington, the fed said it will cut the amount of government bonds that it s been buying each month. that could lead to higher long- term interest rates, including mortgages. wall street s been anticipating this decision for months and when it came today stock prices soared. the dow gained nearly 300 points to close at 16,167 another record high. anthony mason is in new york for us tonight. anthony, what exactly is the fed doing? reporter: the fed will still be stimulating the economy, scott, but it s cutting back the amount from $85 in bond purchases to $75 billion next month. chairman ben bernanke said the fed can begin dialing
