The construction of some of the most historic buildings in Indianapolis is the focus of a new program.

Republican mayoral candidate Jefferson Shreve on Tuesday said the city needs stronger leadership to bring business back to downtown.

Shreve said his priorities for downtown would include addressing vacant office space, preserving the Indianapolis Downtown Heliport, reducing aggressive panhandling and increasing beautification efforts.

The seven-story, 140,000-square-foot structure at 40 Monument Circle was built in 1998 as a dedicated home for Emmis, then a growing media company.

Command Coffees second location will occupy the former Starbucks on Monument Circle, which closed in 2022, citing safety concerns.
