Its a rare occurrence when a fastpitch softball team at any level wins anything of consequence with average pitching.

Almost a dozen crucial games involving 24 of the 26 teams covered by AccessWDUN/Friday Game Night highlight a 19-game schedule on Friday, one of the busiest weeks of the season.

No. 1-ranked Buford rolled through its opening two games on Monday in a Class 7A Sectional at the Buford Softball Complex.

Of the 26 teams covered by AccessWDUN/Friday Game Night, not a single one has a chance to clinch a playoff spot this week.

While every region is now in the middle of their roads to the playoffs, NONE will hold as much attention as when Buford, ranked No. 1 in Class 7A, travels to Hoschton to take on No. 2 Mill Creek in a battle for Region 8-7A supremacy.

The Week 9 schedule has no larger match-up than the behemoth Class 7A battle between No. 1 Buford and No. 2 Mill Creek.

In recent memory, Dawson County has become synonymous with winning under head coach Sid Maxwell. That certainly wasn’t the case for most of the Tigers’ existence.

Week 8 will be the lightest of the 2023 campaign, with just 16 games involving northeast Georgia-area teams. However, 14 of the 16 games are crucial region matchups.
