[ bleep ]. goodness. and those waters they come up so quickly, you have to remember that. cnn s polo sandoval is live in stony point. polo, bring us up close to how damaging these waters were. reporter: and what we can show you here, jim, in stony point, new york, about a 45-minute drive north of new york city it will give folks north of here a preview of the potential, the damaging potential of the storm. we will take you back to yesterday when this what is usually a babbling brook basically overflowed its banks and all of that debris, large and small, was pushed up against some of the against some of the area homes. good thing is for these two homes here according to their owners they told me really the flooding was contained to the basement, so the damage was limited, but still going to be quite the cleanup process.
the same place that we re seeing that record-breaking heat. it makes for a difficult cleanup process. here in louin, mississippi, there are power crews working a few feet away from where i am. they re trying to get power back on. the high is expected to stretch into the 90s today. we re talking about adding insult to injury. when you look here, this is the back of a tractor trailer, a resident tells me it was clear at the end of the street. the storm picked it up, threw it here where it came to a rest. this is one example of the storm s fury. for so many people across the south, the threat is not over yet. this morning, as millions across the southeast face record-breaking heat, heavy rain and no power, yet another round of severe weather and tornadoes are taking their toll. the latest streak in moss point, mississippi, downing trees and power lines in the small gulf town, ripping roofs off homes and stripping the steeple from this church. shook up, man. because i m thankful to be al
a small town in texas is banding together after a destructive and deadly ef-3 tornado ripped through their town. this morning help is coming from across the state and from neighboring states. the cleanup process will be extensive. some 200 homes were damaged by the twister. it s something the state s governor says he has never seen. i have seen more tornados than i can count. i have never seen the level of decimation to a town as i have seen today. i was humbled by the citizens of this town. the families that just lost everything, they were not sitting on the curb waiting for somebody to help them. they were in the middle of cleanup within hours after the storm passed. but this morning the question on many residents minds is why didn t they hear the city s
presumably the worst will soon be over. we know the flood walls and the locks have done their part, at least from what we ve been hearing. that is the good news in all of this. the damage already done as you have alluded to. tractors, basements flooded out here in these communities. hundreds and hundreds of people impacted many of them, again, just waiting for this water to recede so they can really start to assess and start the cleanup process. emotions here have really run the gamut from people who say this is what they expected with the river, of course, flooding. other saying yes, we know, this is going to be bad. it was really worse than we could ve expected. take a listen to what some of the residents have been telling me. our homes are safe. we are well equipped to withstand the high waters. we do have to lift everything off the ground. everything in new york are, the main level garage, it does have to be lifted up on to high shoving or up onto your deck,
